If you’re starting a new business or thinking about replacing an outdated website, there’s a good chance Squarespace is somewhere on your list. But with so many website platforms available in 2026, is Squarespace still a good choice for a small business?
For many businesses, the answer is yes — and it’s still the platform I recommend to the majority of my clients.
I’ve been designing websites for more than 20 years and have built more than 500 websites along the way. I’ve worked with plenty of different platforms, but Squarespace has become my go-to for small and medium-sized business websites.
Here’s why.
You Can Actually Manage Your Own Website
One of the biggest advantages of Squarespace has always been how easy it is for clients to manage once the website is finished.
You shouldn’t have to contact a web designer every time you want to change a photo, update your services, add a team member or fix a typo. Squarespace gives business owners a visual editing experience that makes most everyday website updates relatively painless.
That doesn’t mean you have to build the website yourself. A professional designer can create the site, customize it for your brand and make sure everything works properly — then hand you the keys.
Squarespace Does a Lot in One Place
Hosting, security, website editing, analytics and many other features are built directly into Squarespace. You can also add ecommerce, appointment scheduling, email marketing, memberships and other tools as your business grows.
For a small business, having fewer moving parts is a big advantage.
You’re not constantly worrying about software updates, plugins breaking or whether your hosting company and website platform are playing nicely together.
Yes, Squarespace Can Be Customized
One of the biggest misconceptions about Squarespace is that every website has to look like a Squarespace template.
It doesn’t.
Squarespace provides the foundation, but a designer can take it much further with custom layouts, typography, branding, CSS and other customizations.
Most visitors to a well-designed Squarespace website will have absolutely no idea what platform it was built on — and they shouldn't.
What About SEO?
Squarespace includes most of the important SEO tools a small business website needs, including customizable page titles and descriptions, clean URLs, image alt text, automatic sitemaps and mobile-friendly pages.
But the platform is only part of the equation.
Good SEO still depends heavily on having useful content, a logical website structure, fast-loading pages and a website built around what your potential customers are actually searching for.
Simply choosing Squarespace won’t magically put you at the top of Google. Unfortunately, that button still doesn't exist.
Is Squarespace Right for Every Business?
No — and that’s important.
Businesses requiring extremely complex databases, highly customized web applications or very specialized ecommerce functionality may be better served by another platform.
But most small businesses don't need any of that.
If you need a professional website to showcase your services, generate leads, sell products, accept bookings or simply make your business look credible online, Squarespace remains an excellent option in 2026.
And perhaps most importantly, you can end up with a website that looks completely custom without being stuck with something you’re afraid to touch once your web designer disappears.
At Hop Creative, I specialize in custom Squarespace website design for businesses that want something professional, unique and easy to manage.
